The SPOTLIGHTTM system The Evitra SPOTLIGHTTM system is designed to solve problems with current expression technologies where parameters such as design of the construct, expression vectors, host strains and physical conditions are varied in time consuming experiments. The SPOTLIGHTTM system encompasses the integration of an innovative molecular biology concept* and discoveries made using this concept for how solubility and yield of target proteins in recombinant expression systems can be enhanced. The technology is very fast, robust and only requires standard laboratory equipment . In a pilot study, the SPOTLIGHTTM system was applied to 25 human gene products selected from different structural and functional families. More than 70 % of these gene products could be made to express solubly in E.coli allowing purification of milligram amounts of stable protein. Since no solubilising tags are used these proteins are directly ready for scale-up production. The SPOTLIGHTTM system therefore dramatically improves current success rates in the process of producing large amounts of soluble human proteins for structural and functional studies. *The SPOTLIGHT technology is subject to patents.
